When Psychology major, Carina, found herself in need of a career change and wanting to return to school, she chose the University Transfer (UT) program. Never having attended university and out of school for 12 years, Ms. Lamantia was returning to school as a mature student, parent and what she describes as somewhat of an introvert. Ms. Lamania says, "the UT program gave me the confidence in my ability to learn and was a welcoming and a very comfortable place to be."
UT Program Major Help
The University Transfer program is designed to make university a viable option for anybody interested in attending university by preparing them with the skills and tools needed to succeed at a university level.
Ms Lamantia says, "the UT program was a very good intermediate step for someone like me new to university -- it prepared me with the organizational, time management, writing and critical thinking knowledge I needed for Trent." Ms. Lamantia, is now employed as a research assistant and achieving marks in university surpassing anything she ever attained in the past.
All About the Children
As a parent to three, it is important to her that her children (ages 6, 8 and 11) grow to become confident learners and confident academically, as she has seen herself become. Ms. Lamania says "life is learning" and demonstrates this regularly by completing homework alongside her children.
After the additional support Ms. Lamantia has had to provide for two of her children -- one with dyslexia and the other with ADHD - Ms Lamantia is truly passionate about exceptional children and the resources available to assist them in having an enriching learning experience.
Next Steps
Ms. Lamantia hopes to complete her honours thesis and continue to graduate school and perhaps even her PH.D in psychometry with a focus on developmental, cognitive and languages. Ms Lamantia is very happy on the career path she is embarking on, confident that she will one day be able to help caregivers with the support they are looking for in the areas she now is learning to excel in.
