Trent University College-University Transfer Student Profile: Rafal Dobosz

Rafal grew up in a small village in Poland which he sites as similar to Trent University because the campus is surrounded by trees and tranquil settings.

As a Computer Science graduate student at Trent University, Mr. Dobosz's passion for technology has progressed from his childhood days in Poland when he purchased his first computer at the age of ten.

For many students and for many reasons, attending college prior to university is a much easier transition. Trent University has articulation agreements in place with many Ontario colleges and is known to be a very transfer-friendly university and Mr. Dobosz' story proves this.

As an immigrant, Mr. Dobosz chose to attend his local college - Georgian College - allowing time to develop his communication and social skills while being close to his tight-knit family. When he decided to enrol at university, Trent offered him two years of university credits for the two years of schooling and one year of job experience gained at Georgian College. This generous offer was his deciding factor in choosing Trent.

High Praise for Trent
Mr. Dobosz felt very prepared for his studies Trent and praises the computer labs available at Trent but says, "the best thing about Trent is the staff." Mr. Dobosz is very pleased with his decision to attend Trent University admitting, "Trent has encouraged me to be more open."

All in the Family
Growing up, Mr. Dobosz enjoyed a close relationship with his older brother, so that when his brother chose computer science to study, Mr. Dobosz followed in his footsteps. Mr. Dobosz also lives by words his mother, a teacher, taught him: "education and learning is important -- not necessarily as a means to an end, but more for the experience, knowledge and wisdom it provides."

Future Plans
Mr. Dobosz plans on finishing his thesis, then possibly working on a doctorate degree. From sneaking computer time with his brother early in the morning to a career involving algorithms and DNA analysis -- the articulation agreement between Georgian College and Trent University is going to take Rafal Dobosz to big places.
